Asthma Stories: Nayanika’s Journey of Strength and Awareness

At Asthma Friend, we believe real stories inspire real change. Asthma is not just a medical condition, it’s a lived experience that impacts daily life, relationships, and mental health. Today, we share the story of Nayanika Misra from Bhopal, MP, who was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 23. Her journey reflects courage, resilience, and the importance of proper medical guidance.

Nayanika’s Story

“I was diagnosed in January 2023 at the age of 23. It took another four months of tests before I finally got an inhaler. By that time, my lung function had dropped, and it still hasn’t fully recovered. Along with asthma, I also developed allergies.

Simple things that most people don’t think twice about like walking and talking at the same time became difficult. I can’t run or work out without feeling breathless. At night, I sometimes wake up gasping for air.

What has helped me is getting an allergy test, understanding which areas of my lungs are affected, and following a proper treatment plan. Most importantly, I’ve learned to put my health above everything else.”

Her Biggest Challenge

  • Shortness of breath during simple activities
  • Night-time asthma causing disturbed sleep
  • Balancing allergies along with asthma
  • Accepting the need to prioritize health over other commitments

What Helped Nayanika Cope

  • Allergy testing and management
  • A structured treatment regime
  • Consistently following medical advice
  • Listening to her body and resting when needed
  • Having a strong support system

Nayanika’s Tip for Others

“Medical adherence, allergy management, listening to your body, ample rest, and having a good support system make a huge difference.”
