What is Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that inflames and narrows the airways in the lungs, making breathing difficult. This inflammation causes recurring periods of wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. Asthma can be triggered by various factors, including allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, and pet dander), irritants (such as smoke, air pollution, and chemical fumes), exercise, and respiratory infections. While asthma can affect people of all ages, it most often starts in childhood.
